Indy Reads welcomes questions about the program from prospective students, and also from family members, friends, or social workers. We know it often helps to have someone in the background providing encouragement and support. We do insist, however, that to begin the process of becoming a student that the potential student call our office at 317-275-4040.
To learn more about becoming a prospective student, please visit our Student Eligibility & Policies page.
Note: Non-English speaking adults requesting ESL services may have an interpreter present when contacting the office.

When a potential student calls, we obtain basic information. This information is then sent to a Student Interviewer. The Interviewer will contact the student and arrange a time and place to meet to administer an assessment to determine her/his reading and writing level, or her/his ability to speak and understand English.
If the person qualifies for the program, the next step is attending an orientation that outlines the responsibilites of an Indy Reads student. After completing orientation, we will then work on matching the student with a volunteer tutor based on the availability of both the student and potential tutors.
Indy Reads Privacy Commitment

All information collected by our staff or volunteers is used to help us better serve you.
We promise never to sell or share that information with third parties, except in cases where required by law.
