Indy Reads welcomes questions about the program from family members, friends, or social workers. We know it often helps to have someone in the background providing encouragement and support. We do insist, however, that the potential student begins the process of becoming a student by calling our office at 275-4040.

(Note: Non-English speaking adults requesting ESL services may have an interpreter present when contacting the office.)

When a potential student calls we obtain basic information. This information is then sent to a Student Interviewer. The Interviewer will contact the student and arrange a time and place to meet to administer an assessment to determine their reading and writing level, or their ability to speak and understand English.

If the person qualifies for the program, the next step is attending an orientation that outlines the responsibilites as an Indy Reads student. After completing orientation, we will then work on matching the student with a volunteer tutor based on their availability.
